1. Our zero-log commitment
Chainvail does not log IP addresses, user agents, or session identifiers for visitors to investigative pages or for submissions sent through /tip. We cannot disclose what we do not retain.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what you voluntarily provide: newsletter email addresses, contact form messages, and tip-line submissions. Analytics, when used, are limited to aggregate, cookie-less pageview counts hosted on servers we control.
3. How we use your information
Newsletter emails are used solely to deliver our weekly investigative brief. Tip-line submissions are reviewed by our investigations desk. We never sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, brokers, or third-party recovery firms.
4. Source protection
Tip-line submissions are end-to-end encrypted (AES-256) and accessible only to named editors. We support PGP, SecureDrop, and Signal for high-risk sources. We will fight any subpoena seeking source identification to the fullest extent of applicable shield laws.
5. Cookies
We use only strictly-necessary cookies for theme preference and form session state. No advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics cookies are set.
6. Data retention
Newsletter emails: retained until unsubscribe. Contact-form messages: 90 days. Tip-line submissions: encrypted at rest, retained only as long as the active investigation requires, then cryptographically erased.
7. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
You may request access, correction, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you by writing to privacy@chainvail.com. We respond within 30 days.
8. Children's privacy
Chainvail is not directed to anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
9. Changes to this policy
Material changes will be announced in our weekly brief and reflected here with a revised effective date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
